Customer Reviews
Sherab Tenzin
One upscale restaurant in Thimphu is designed to let customers experience ancient Bhutanese household culture and tradition.
The staff are very friendly and cordial. They welcome every customer with a cup of sugar (butter tea) with zaaw or a pa lang of ara (local wine).
All items on the menu are traditional Bhutanese cuisines, which we don’t see in almost all restaurants in Bhutan.
The interior designs are also so appealing and give us a feeling of being in a house of the ancient Bhutanese elite.
But the prices aren’t as low as per local standards. If we go in a group, it becomes reasonable. Experience Bhutanese traditional household dining at Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant in Thimphu.

Tasty food with a wide variety of traditional menus, from buckwheat pancakes, Ema dashi, kawa dashi, chicken pasta, and pork. We went there in the evening. The ambiance was spectacular. If somebody is staying in Thimpu for two days then one should definitely visit here once. Heard it’s managed by the queen mother of Bhutan

First time I have seen real authentic Bhutanese food. They have traditional Bhutanese dishes cooked our own way. First time I have not seen dal (lentil) being served as Bhutanese food. No onions tomatoes or other spices are added. I enjoyed the lunch especially the “Changsha seek paa” really well made with dried red chili 🌶️. The red chili 🌶️ datsi is another super hit. Thank you for keeping our traditional food and cooking alive. I will come back for more “phagsha seek”. A very nice treat after the museum tour with Surja and Zow. Enjoyed!

Good enough, can give it a try. The representation of the Bhutanese lifestyle in ancient times is displayed well but unfortunately, they do not allow pictures inside, don’t know why? The pictures posted on social platforms instead help to promote attractions & no way harm. The administration may rethink its policy for allowing photography.
